What Cookies are

Cookies are short fragments of text (letters and/or numbers) that allow the web server to store information on the client (the browser) to be reused during the same visit to the site (session cookies) or later, even for long periods (persistent cookies). Cookies are stored, according to user preferences, by the individual browser on the specific device used (computer, tablet, smartphone). Similar technologies can be used to collect information on user behavior and service usage.

In the following of this document we will refer to cookies and all similar technologies by simply using the term “cookies”.

What are the main types of Cookies

Based on the characteristics and use of cookies, we can distinguish different categories:

Strictly necessary cookies or technical cookies. These are cookies that are indispensable for the proper functioning of our site and are used to manage the login and access to the reserved functions of the site, in general to speed up, improve or personalize the level of service to users. The duration of cookies is either strictly limited to the work session (when the browser is closed they are deleted), or of a longer duration, aimed at recognizing the visitor's computer. Their deactivation can compromise the use of services accessible from login, while the public part of the site remains normally usable.

Analysis and performance cookies. These are cookies used to collect and analyze site traffic and usage anonymously and in aggregate form. These cookies, whether first-party or third-party, without identifying the user, allow you to detect, for example, whether the same user returns to log in at different times. They also allow you to monitor the system and improve its performance and usability. The deactivation of such cookies can be performed without any loss of functionality.

Profiling cookies. These are permanent cookies used to identify (anonymously and otherwise) the user's preferences and improve their browsing experience, in order to send advertising messages in line with the preferences expressed by the user in the context of web browsing. Due to the particularly invasive nature of these devices within the private sphere of users, European and Italian legislation requires that users be adequately informed about their use and thus express their valid consent.

Third-party cookies. By visiting a website you can receive cookies either from the site visited (owner or publisher), or from sites managed by other organizations (third parties) through the former. An example is represented by the presence of “social plugins” (e.g. Facebook, Twitter, Google+) aimed at sharing content on social networks. The presence of these plugins leads to the transmission of cookies to and from all sites managed by third parties. The management of information collected from third parties is governed by the related disclosures to which please refer.

How to manage third-party cookies

To ensure greater transparency and convenience, for each of the third-party sites that can be installed through this site, the description and web address of the information and methods for managing cookies are provided, as well as any denial of consent to the installation of cookies.

Google Analytics

E’ a web traffic analysis service provided by Google, used to monitor and improve the performance of the host site (performance cookies). Google Analytics can anonymously collect and analyze information about usage behaviors. This information is collected by Google Analytics, which processes it for the purpose of compiling reports on the websites themselves. This site, by anonymizing the user's IP address, does not use (and does not allow third parties to use) Google's analytics tool to monitor or collect personally identifiable information. Google does not associate the IP address with any other data held by Google nor does it attempt to link an IP address with a user's identity. Google may also disclose this information to third parties where this is required by law or where such third parties process the said information on behalf of Google.

For further information, please refer to the link below: https://www.google.it/policies/privacy/partners/

The user can selectively disable the Google Analytics action by installing the opt-out component provided by Google on their browser. To disable Google Analytics, please refer to the link below: https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout?hl=it

For all third-party cookies

If it is particularly difficult to identify all third parties, especially for preference profiling, the following links are provided:

  • http://www.youronlinechoices.com/it/

How to disable cookies from your browser

The user can also decide whether or not to accept cookies using their browser settings.

Please note: Disabling technical cookies in whole or in part may compromise the use of site features reserved for registered users. On the contrary, the usability of public content is also possible by completely disabling cookies.

Disabling third-party cookies does not affect navigability in any way. The setting can be defined specifically for different web sites and applications. Furthermore, the best browsers allow you to define different settings for cookies. For example, in Mozilla Firefox, through the Tools->Options ->Privacy menu, you can access a control panel where you can define whether or not to accept the different types of cookies and proceed with their removal.
