Bio habitat
Bio-Habitat is a standard that covers the application of the organic method to green areas not destined for agricultural use.
Objectives
It was the result of a partnership between Prober (The Association of Organic and Biodynamic Producers of Emilia Romagna), Serbios (the leading company in the field of organic agriculture defence and nutrition) who co-opted a team of experts to set out the standard.
The experience gained for conducting to success the cultural system adopted in organic agriculture, is transferred to the sector of the green areas in order to develop a new cultural model. The Code of Practice sets out the methods to be used to design and manage green areas following the Reg. CEE 834/2007 and 889/2008 by the internationally acknowledged standards (IFOAM e CODEX).
To whom the certification is addresed
This certification is aimed at public authorities, private and public sector bodies and operators who manage parks, gardens, campsites, holiday villages, countryside and other hotels, historic houses, urban green spaces and school playing fields.
Advantages and e prerogatives
The adoption of the project establishes an important list of privileges for the adopters:
- Improvement and requalification of the green areas
- Reduction of the polluting agents in town
- Creation of safe zones, which can be used by the citizens with a special regard for the weakest ones
- Acknowledgement of the owner or the manager of the site as environment oriented
- Revalorization of the offered service
- Public consent
How certification works
Organization interested to the certification of their own green areas in compliance with the standard, need to be compliant to the requirements and the fulfilments included in the norm documents presenting the due application for certification, subscribing the economic offer that CCPB will prepare, subscribing and forwarding the contract for certification, which implies the acceptance of the clauses contained in the regulation for la certification and in its attachment.
At the receipt of the above mentioned documentation,CCPB proceeds with the assessment of the documents, audit of the production sites, to the decision for certification and the issuing of the certificate and subsequent inscription in the record for certified products. The following surveillance activity will then assess the maintenance of the compliance to the reference regulation documents.
